Terms of use — Fairnab

The short version. Fairnab shows prices that people report. Share only what you really paid. Treat what you see as a guide, not a guarantee. Don't misuse the site. We may remove content or accounts that break these rules.

Agreeing to these terms

By using Fairnab, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. You must be at least 18 years old.

Who operates Fairnab

Fairnab is currently operated from Ontario, Canada. We may transfer Fairnab, together with these terms and your information, to a company set up to run it. If that happens, these terms and our Privacy Policy will keep applying, and we will update these documents with the company's name.

Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. Give us an email address that is really yours, keep access to it secure, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. Please use one account per person. Don't create extra accounts to get around how results unlock.

What Fairnab is, and isn't

Prices on Fairnab are reported by users. We do not check or verify them, and they are not quotes. Real prices vary with the job, the materials, the season, the contractor, and many other things. What you see is a guide only. It is not professional, legal, or financial advice, and you should not rely on it alone to make a decision. Fairnab does not recommend or endorse any contractor, mechanic, or business, and is not a party to any agreement between you and one.

What you submit

Only share prices you actually paid, for work that was actually done.
Don't include names, phone numbers, addresses, or other personal information about yourself or anyone else. Don't name individuals or businesses in your notes.
Don't submit anything unlawful, misleading, abusive, or defamatory.
You keep ownership of what you submit. You give Fairnab a free, non-exclusive permission to store it and to use it, in combined form, to run, improve, and report on the service. If you ask us to delete your account, we will stop using your individual submissions. Combined figures already calculated may remain.
We may remove submissions that look false, abusive, or like spam.

How results unlock

Results unlock when you share a price. The unlock lasts 12 months from your most recent submission. Prices shared before we launch count in the same way. We may change how unlocking works, and we may limit or end access if the rules are being abused.

Fair use

Please don't:

scrape the site, or use bots or other automated tools to collect or submit data;
submit fake or careless prices to unlock results;
try to work out who contributed a price, or to get around the limits on what is shown;
copy or republish Fairnab's results, in whole or in large part, without our written permission;
interfere with the site's security or normal operation.

Our content

The Fairnab name, logo, design, and the way results are compiled and presented belong to Fairnab. You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

Suspending or ending access

We may suspend or remove an account, or remove content, if you break these terms or put the site or other people at risk. You can stop using Fairnab at any time and can ask us to delete your account by emailing admin@fairnab.ca.

No guarantees

Fairnab is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that the site will always be available or error-free, or that any price is accurate or complete.

Limits on our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, Fairnab is not responsible for losses that result from using the site or relying on its prices, including indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer-protection or other laws that cannot be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario can hear any dispute, except that if you are a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live when the law gives you that right. Nothing in these terms takes away protections that mandatory consumer laws give you, including in Quebec.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will also post a notice on the site or email you. If you keep using Fairnab after an update, you accept the new terms.
